Bacon Umbrella

Francis Bacon, "Painting 2," Offset color lithograph

I needed some yellow on this rainy evening. And while disturbing, this picture seemed to encapsulate the day so far...

The Summer Breeze

This painting makes me feel like summer can truly be a state of mind... (this coming from the girl who has yet to install her air conditioner).

Bring in the Storms!

David Chapin, "Storm," 1958, oil on panel

I've gotten stuck in downpours all day and this painting makes me wonder how else one could abstractly paint a storm. Also, I'm curious about the particular storm that he painted...did it even involve rain?

Image Inspiration -- Newspaper Collage

Michael Farrell, "Protestant Oculte," 1975

I've always adored newspaper collages. This one is no exception. AND I really want to go to Ireland right now -- tickets are so cheap!

Pet Post -- It's Heating Up

I can identify quite a bit with this photo, starting with the kitty's slightly over-sized belly. And folding clothes can be exhausting -- especially in this heat!!

Thanks to William for capturing this amazing moment...

Zdenek Kosek -- AOD

"Untitled," pen and marker on paper, 1991

"Untitled Drawing," pen and marker on paper, 1991

I always adore ink on paper drawings, but these intrigued me more than usual. They express an abstract chemical/ scientific formula, while maintaining free-flowing forms that resemble innocent thought bubbles. To read more about Kosek's interesting life, head over to Art on Paper Magazine here.

Art Review -- The Female Gaze

I recently had the pleasure of seeing Edouard Manet's, "Olympia," 1863, for the first time in person at the Musée d'Orsay and it reignighted my interest in the Female Gaze as a subject matter.

If this subject interests you, I suggest seeing the current show at NYC's Cheim & Read Gallery. One of the many female artists in the exhibit is photographer Katy Grannan:

"Kamika, near Route 9 Poughkeepsie, NY," 2003.
